The Mentorship
Meet Your Mentor
Katie Wilson has dedicated her life to dance since the age of two, building a career that spans professional performance, collegiate coaching, choreography, and dance education. Originally from South Florida, Katie trained under Amanda Tae at Focal Point Dance Studios before earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from The University of the Arts and Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where she immersed herself in both concert and commercial dance training.
Katie's professional career includes performing with the Miami Marlins and spending three seasons as a Miami Heat Dancer, where she was honored with Rookie of the Year during her first season. Her performance experience extends to touring with Pitbull, appearing in music videos for Marc Anthony, and working with professional and collegiate programs including the University of South Florida SunDolls, Florida State Golden Girls, Duke Dancing Devils, Orlando Predators, Miami Heat, and Marlins Mermaids. She has also assisted choreographers at ProAction Dance and was a staff member for Artist Simply Human (ASH), where she discovered her passion for mentoring young dancers in a convention setting.
As an educator and coach, Katie founded and directed the first Varsity Dance Team at Pine Crest School, building the program from the ground up over five years. She currently teaches jazz throughout South Florida and serves as Assistant Coach and Choreographer for the University of Miami Sunsations. During her first season with the program, the team achieved the highest scores in program history and advanced to the UDA Jazz Semifinals for the first time in University of Miami history. Katie is also a certified Barre instructor, bringing specialized knowledge of strength training, alignment, stability, flexibility, and injury prevention into every class she teaches.
Katie specializes in jazz, jazz-funk, commercial dance, NBA-style performance, and college dance team preparation. Her teaching blends strong technical training with athletic conditioning, artistry, musicality, confidence, and performance quality. Inspired by the iconic music videos and performers of the early 2000s, she creates an environment where dancers are challenged to push beyond their comfort zones, develop their own artistic voice, and perform with confidence and authenticity.
The Mentorship was created for dancers who are serious about continuing their dance journey at the collegiate or professional level. Katie recognized that many talented dancers leave the studio without the individualized coaching needed to bridge the gap between recreational training and elite performance opportunities. Through a highly personalized small-group environment, she helps dancers build the strength, technique, and consistency required for college dance teams, professional teams, and commercial careers.
Beyond choreography and technique, Katie mentors each dancer through every stage of the audition process. From developing the strength and technical skills required for collegiate and professional teams, to refining style, performance quality, and versatility, to preparing for interviews and understanding what directors are truly looking for, every aspect of The Mentorship is designed to prepare dancers for the next level. Katie believes that becoming an exceptional dancer is about more than mastering skills—it's about developing confidence, professionalism, resilience, and the ability to leave a lasting impression every time you walk into an audition.
Whether a dancer dreams of earning a spot on a college dance team, pursuing a professional career, or simply reaching their fullest potential, Katie's mission is to provide the guidance, accountability, and mentorship that transforms talented dancers into confident, well-rounded artists who are ready for every opportunity ahead.
